Similar to the previous step cut out the donor carpet making sure that you cut the backing without cutting tufts.
Can you fix a strip of carpet.
Use the top piece as a template and draw around it with the awl or pen.
Start with a clean area.
Flimsy wood tack strips yield easily to a sharp utility knife so you can replace pieces.
If you re dealing with a corner or a small area you can use a knee kicker alone see photo 3.
If no remnants can be found cut a small portion of carpet from the back of a closet or other out of the way space to provide a repair piece.
Keep in mind that if you plan on replacing the carpet the patch will adhere to the padding making it harder to salvage the pad.
Reattach the carpet as you refasten the carpet to the tack strip you need to stretch it toward the wall.
A line or 2 of glue on the surface of the carpet pad will often be sufficient.
Use a utility knife to trim off any pad covering the tack strip.
Sharp objects can fall cutting carpets but most often tears and rips occur along the seamed edges or at the edges of badly worn.
Remnants from the installation of the carpet make the job a little easier.
When done correctly this repair eradicates the damaged area with minimal or no evidence.
Lay the piece on top of the donor carpet.
On a wood subfloor all you need is a staple gun and 5 16 in.
Obtain the donor carpet.
If carpet tape is not doing the job you can also use carpet glue to hold the patch in position.
Take the damaged piece that you cut out over to your donor carpet area.
